The Most Common Myths About

Shoulder Pain

You've Been Told By Doctors, Friends and Social Media That Keep You In Pain and Taking Pills

If you’ve struggled with shoulder pain, it’s likely you’ve encountered a plethora of myths and suggestions from friends, family, and even received outdated advice from healthcare professionals that advocate for rest and dependence on pain medications. This advice often leads to confusion, frustration, and a lack of long-term improvement.

Here are some prevalent myths about shoulder pain that individuals visiting our Rancho Cucamonga clinic have heard, which have not only exacerbated their shoulder issues but also prolonged their recovery process.

MYTH #1 - REST ALONE WILL RESOLVE SHOULDER PAIN
The belief that simply resting will heal shoulder pain is misleading. While rest can temporarily alleviate symptoms by stopping the aggravation of the condition, it doesn't address the underlying causes. If these root issues aren't dealt with, the pain will likely return upon resuming activities, possibly worsening over time due to unaddressed tissue damage.
MYTH #2 - RESISTANCE BANDS ARE THE ULTIMATE SOLUTION
The notion that resistance bands are a cure-all for shoulder health is another common misconception. Trevor observes that people often rush into the resistance phase without first correcting shoulder mechanics. Proper recovery should start with hands-on treatment to restore mobility, followed by a careful application of forces, ensuring the shoulder is adequately prepared for resistance training.

what is Trevor Field's Regiment Plan?

Trevor has a proven and very regimented plan to follow: known as the CAIR principle.

C - CONTROL DESTRUCTIVE FORCES
Aim to reduce inflammation and alleviate pain swiftly, setting the foundation for effective recovery by controlling harmful impacts on the shoulder.
A - APPLY APPROPRIATE FORCES
Instead of immediately resorting to heavy resistance training, a gradual and thoughtful application of forces is employed to build strength without exacerbating the condition. Misguided resistance training that leads to increased pain is avoided to ensure progress.
I - IMPOSE DEMANDING FORCES
Once the shoulder is ready, more challenging forces are introduced to further the healing process, carefully timed to avoid premature strain.
R - RESTORE FUNCTIONAL FORCES
The final phase focuses on returning the shoulder to its full functionality, ensuring the patient can resume normal activities without pain or limitation.
